The First Home Game was a branded experiential event and documentary-style national commercial celebrating LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. To commemorate the occasion, Sprite refurbished a basketball court in Akron, Ohio, LeBron’s hometown. To officially unveil the court, which featured a custom design by the graffiti artist Futura, the brand organized a community event comprising skill-and-drill workshops and a free BBQ for children and families associated with local community youth athletic leagues and the LeBron James Family Foundation The culmination of the event was a basketball match between notable Akron and Cleveland ball players, with a surprise walk-on appearance by LeBron. The event was filmed in real time, offering a single content capture opportunity. The subsequent footage was transformed into a successful Sprite commercial.
As the Experiential Executive Producer of The First Home Game, Katie was responsible for translating an on-paper idea into a dynamic community-rooted event designed to benefit the city of Akron.
