The First Home Game was a branded experiential event and documentary-style national commercial celebrating LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. To commemorate the occasion, Sprite refurbished a basketball court in Akron, Ohio, LeBron’s hometown. To officially unveil the court, which featured a custom design by the graffiti artist Futura, the brand organized a community event comprising skill-and-drill workshops and a free BBQ for children and families associated with local community youth athletic leagues and the LeBron James Family Foundation The culmination of the event was a basketball match between notable Akron and Cleveland ball players, with a surprise walk-on appearance by LeBron. The event was filmed in real time, offering a single content capture opportunity. The subsequent footage was transformed into a successful Sprite commercial.

As the Experiential Executive Producer of The First Home Game, Katie was responsible for translating an on-paper idea into a dynamic community-rooted event designed to benefit the city of Akron. She oversaw the commissioned work of Futura and the court re-fabrication and managing community integration and engaging local youth and families through outreach to and coordination with city agencies, the mayor of Akron, and the LeBron James Family Foundation as well as coordinating with the Broadcast Production team to ensure the live basketball game, crowd excitement and LeBron James appearance could be captured documentary style live on-site.
